I started a project of photographing a local treasure here in Pawleys Island called the "Magnolia Beach Club" or as most locals call "McKenzie Beach". There are many old dilapidated buildings on the property. The property use to be a small black beach club and resort that started in the early 1930's. where many famous musicians like Charlie Bird, Count Basie, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Little Richard and many other black entertainers from that era used to play. It was also a place where blacks could go to the beach, stay at one of the old cottages and listen to the live music. Unfortunately, most all of the buildings and beach were destroyed by Hurricane Hazel on October 15, 1954.
